Read this if you have used a 5% women's foam before

This one is different, and the difference matters. Women's 5% foams are applied once a day. This 2% foam is applied twice a day. Applying a 2% foam once daily will under-dose you and you will conclude minoxidil does not work, when the routine was simply wrong. Check the leaflet and follow it rather than a habit from a previous product.

What to expect, month by month

Weeks 2–8: some extra shedding is normal and expected. Resting hairs are pushed out so new ones can grow, and it settles by itself.
Months 3–4: fine new hairs begin appearing along the parting.
Months 4–6: those hairs thicken and the parting starts to look narrower.
Ongoing: results hold while you keep using it. Stop, and hair returns to where it would have been within a few months.

If a once-a-day routine would suit you better, the 5% foam for women is applied once daily.

Twice a day, morning and evening. Use the amount stated in the package leaflet — do not carry over a dose from a different minoxidil product.

Start with dry hair and a dry scalp.
Part your hair to expose the thinning area.
Dispense the directed amount of foam onto your fingers. Cool your hands under the tap first, as foam melts on warm skin.
Work it into the scalp along the parting, not into the lengths of your hair.
Spread it across the whole area you are treating.
Wash your hands straight away.
Let it dry, usually a few minutes, before styling or going to bed.

Applying more than directed does not produce faster results.

Two practical notes:

This is a twice-daily product. If you have previously used a 5% women's foam, that was once daily — the routine here is different.
Apply after colouring rather than before, and leave around four hours before washing your hair so the dose is not rinsed out.

Formulated without propylene glycol, the ingredient in minoxidil lotions most often responsible for scalp dryness, itching and flaking. Its absence is the main practical reason to choose a foam over a lotion.

Why is this 2% when other foams are 5%?

Can I just use it once a day to make it last longer?

No. That under-doses the treatment and the most likely outcome is that you decide minoxidil does not work for you. Follow the leaflet.

How long until I see a difference?

First fine new hairs usually appear around months three to four, with a visibly narrower parting between months four and six. Judge it at six months.

My hair is shedding more since I started. Should I stop?

No. Extra shedding between weeks two and eight is common and settles on its own. It reflects the hair cycle turning over rather than damage.

Can I use it while pregnant or breastfeeding?

No. Minoxidil is not for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Speak to your doctor if you are planning a pregnancy.

Will it interfere with styling or colouring?

STEP 1.
