How to use it
Use once every 1–2 weeks, or whenever hair feels coated, in place of your usual shampoo. Emulsify in your hands, apply to wet hair, lather and leave for up to 5 minutes, then rinse well. Follow with No.5. Wait at least 2 weeks after a colour service. Heavy product or dry-shampoo user? Up to weekly. Fragile or freshly toned hair? Less often.

The honest part
- 'Designed to', not 'proven to': Olaplex describes No.4C as designed to detoxify hair of pollution, chlorine, heavy metals and hard-water minerals. We use Olaplex's wording and nothing stronger.
- Not for the scalp's problems: It removes build-up. It does nothing for dandruff or an itchy scalp condition; for dandruff the ketoconazole shampoos are the right product.
- Open bottle, 12 months: At one wash a week, the 250 ml outlasts its 12-month period after opening. Buy the size you will use.
