Olaplex No.2 Bond Perfector (525ml)

This is a professional product, used at the bowl as the second step of a colour or lightening service.

1. Carry out the colour or lightening service with No.1 in the mix, then rinse it out.
2. Apply No.2 through the hair from root to tip at the bowl, working it through so every section is covered.
3. Leave it on the hair. This is a leave-on step within the service, not a quick rinse-through.
4. Shampoo and condition as normal to wash it out, then dry and finish.

It is used once per chemical service, as part of that service, rather than as a standalone treatment between appointments.

Two practical notes:

• It is a creamy lotion rather than a thin liquid, so decant what you need instead of pouring from the 525 ml bottle at the bowl.
• If you are buying this for use at home, buy No.3 instead — the same idea, in a bottle sized for a bathroom.

Olaplex No.2 is a creamy white lotion, noticeably thicker than No.1. Olaplex describes it as protein free, alcohol free, gluten free and colour safe, which is what allows it to go straight onto hair that has just been coloured or lightened.

What the formula is built around: Olaplex states the chemistry rebuilds disulfide, hydrogen and ionic bonds in the hair. Because there is no protein in it, the claim is about the bonds inside the fibre rather than a conditioning layer left on the surface, and it is worth setting your expectations accordingly.

Is this the same as Olaplex No.3?

They are the same idea in two different formats. For home use, No.3 does the same job in a bottle that is meant for a bathroom rather than a salon trolley, and that is what we would point most people to. Buy No.2 if you are working behind a chair and already using No.1.

Do I need No.1 as well?

No.2 is designed to follow No.1. No.1 goes into the colour or lightener, and No.2 goes on at the bowl once that has been rinsed out. Used on its own it is still a bond treatment, but the system claim only holds with No.1 in the bowl first.

How is it applied?

At the bowl, after the colour or lightener has been rinsed out. It is worked through the hair, left on, and then shampooed and conditioned out as part of the same service.

Will it affect my colour?

Olaplex states that No.2 is colour safe, which is why it is used directly after a colour or lightening service rather than being kept apart from it.

Do I still need No.4 and No.5 after it?

Yes. No.2 is washed out at the bowl, so the shampoo and conditioner still have their own job. No.4 and No.5 are what maintain the result between services.

Can it help with hair loss or thinning?

No. This is a cosmetic treatment for the hair fibre after a chemical service. It is not a treatment for the scalp, for hair loss or for any medical condition, and it should not be bought as one.
